We prepared a submission to the Senate Inquiry into indefinite detention of people with cognitive and psychiatric impairment in Australia.  Our submission highlighted some recurring experiences of people we have worked with receiving long-term involuntary treatment under the Mental Health Act 2013. Violence and Abuse in Institutional and Residential Settings Inquiry

The Australian Senate in currently undertaking an inquiry into violence, abuse and neglect against people with disability in institutional and residential settings.

Through our individual advocacy work, we have witnessed the terrible consequences that abuse and neglect can have on people with disability. We have also seen the way that responses to allegations of abuse and neglect can worsen the impacts of the abuse and neglect, and leave people feeling powerless, without the means to escape.
